2026 International German Speed Windsurfing Championship
Gunnar Asmussen and Jenna Gibson take home the titles
After five windy days, the International German Speed Windsurfing Championship came to a successful close last weekend. The event took place from August 29 to September 5 in Orth on Fehmarn, Germany, and set its first record right from the start. Fifty competitors gathered to compete on the speed course.
Right at the start, there was a 90-minute race on the 250-meter course in Orther Westbucht. By the second day, it was already becoming clear in three more races that Jenna Gibson and Gunnar Asmussen would be nearly unbeatable.
And that’s how it remained for the rest of the competition, right up until the final day on Saturday, when racing even had to be called off due to heavy rain, approaching thunderstorms, and storm-like gusts.
Jenna Gibson (GBR-96) won the women’s competition ahead of Tatiana Dianova (GER-71) and Gila Steinbacher (GER-570). Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2) won the men’s competition ahead of Simon Pettifer (GBR-67) and Manfred Krückeberg (GER-82). Bo Henri Erdmann (GER-526) won the U17 division ahead of Nils Haacke (GER-11), while Denis Goncharov (GER-808) won the U21 division ahead of Sarah Weiken (GER-2001).
